I always work in the OO native format when I give a presentation I always use my OO based laptop.

The MS Office formats are proprietary and the OO import/export filters for these have been arrived at by trial and error, so there may be (read: frequently is) some formatting loss, which is why you are warned on selecting a Save format that is nor OO's native format.ĭocuments saved in OO's native formats play well in OO, but can be iffy in MS Office. In spite of common misconceptions, OpenOffice is not an MS Office clone. So my question is: When we see claims that OO is compatible with files created in MSO, how truly compatible should compatible be? Is compatibility always resolved or are there issues such as I'm discovering, that need to be considered? What are some of the things we have to watch out for when attempting usage across these two application suites? Are there settings in OO Impress that I'm not aware of to take the MSO PPT and make it "compatible" without having to Save As? Here's another clue: If I load up the show in PPT and do a File > Save As > and type in a show name but use the MS supplied drop down of "Powerpoint 97-2003 Presentation", this works in OO as advertised. Some are OK, but a good deal have this characteristic where the text flows off the page/slide. Still showing but not at all completely in frame. But even more importantly, there are certain slides where in PPT the text boxes pre perfect, but in OO these text boxes are rendered way too large for the slide dimensions and wind up being outside the border/frame.

In OO, the bkgrd color for the same file/slide show is a gradient grey.

In PPT, the background is for example a solid red color. I bring in the PPT file (authored in PPT 2010) using OO's File > Open. I have D/Led a fresh copy of OO today and installed.

I'm having problems with playing MS Office 2010 PPT slide shows with OO 4.1.1. That's an assumption on my part as I can find nothing definitive saying that the two are not. I'm understanding from just a general reading that OO 4.1.1 Impress should be completely compatible with MS Office 2010.
